I am having foot surgery on dec 3 to repair a problem with the second metatarsal. I started running about 6 months ago (after a layoff of many years) I am in my early 50s and run a 11 min mile. I am not fast but love the way I feel when I am able to compete in 5ks. I am posting on this board to see if anyone has advice on how to keep in shape, mentally and physically for the 3 months that I'll be out of running. I will have a cast so swimming is out. Thanks, looking forward to some uplifting advice.

Would you be able to do some Pilates/core work? I think that would really help you when you get back to running. You couldn't do everything - for example, planks would be out with a cast on your foot - but you could do ab & lower back work. Do you have access to a UBE (at the Y, for example)?
